Siamo certi che avete trascorso un buon Natale e vi auguriamo un felice anno 2008

La scampagnata di Natale del 2 Dicembre scorso
Il nostro picnic all’Aereoclub di Stellenbosch è stato ancora una volta un grande successo e questa volta il tempo è stato molto clemente con noi! Eravamo oltre un’ottantina tra soci, amici e simpatizzanti e tutto è andato come previsto. Alle 12 precise, come preannunciato, Babbo Natale a bordo del suo aereo è improvvisamente sbucato da dietro le colline e ha fatto una virata sulla folla e dal finestrino ha lanciato manciate di caramelle ai bambini. Dopo il pranzo ci sono stati dei giochi sul prato per i bambini e per gli adulti, corse nei sacchi e altro. Aldo Cannone aveva portato con sè la sua inseparabile fisarmonica, quindi ci siamo radunati attorno a lui e tutti in coro abbiamo cantato delle vecchie e nostalgiche canzoni. Terri Talotti ha ancora una volta organizzato dei giochi con le pignatte e noi adulti tutti divertiti a vedere i bambini con gli occhi bendati a dare colpi di bastone alle pignatte appese ai rami di una quercia per vincere un premio.

Un grazie di cuore a tutti coloro che hanno partecipato alla festa e hanno contribuito a far sì che fosse un grande successo. È stata una memorabile domenica, trascorsa in bella compagnia con un clima ideale all’ombra degli ombrelloni del club, circondati dai bei colori della natura con alle nostre spalle decine di aerei del club parcheggiati poco distante. Quando siamo arrivati al momento di salutarci, avevamo tutti un bel sorriso.

La prossima scampagnata - la vendemmia
Abbiamo ricevuto questo bell’invito:

Cari membri del Fogolâr Furlan,              
la famiglia Bottega ha il piacere di invitarvi al picnic della vendemmia nella nostra “Da Capo Vineyards” vicino al Sir Lowry’s Pass, a Somerset West. Il picnic avrà luogo domenica 9 Marzo dalle ore 11 del mattino.

Al mattino parteciperemo insieme alla vendemmia e poi schiacceremo con i piedi i grappoli d’uva nella ‘brenta’ fino a fare un ‘caretel’ di vino. A chi vuol partecipare a questa cerimonia,  consigliamo di portare dei pantaloni corti o avere dei pantaloni lunghi da poter avvolgere. Vi consigliamo di portare con voi anche un cambio di vestiti. Una doccia a mano sarà a disposizione.

Terminata la vendemmia e il pestare dell’uva, verrà servito il pranzo che consiste in carne alle brace, insalate e verdure. Come dolce ci verrà servita una fetta della tradizionale Colomba Pasquale.

Il costo del pranzo sarà di Rand 80.00 per adulti e Rand 40.00 per bambini sotto i 12 anni di età. Per favore fate sapere a Rosanna in quanti parteciperete e se avrete dei bambini fateglielo sapere, in modo che potremo organizzare qualcosa anche per loro.

Vino (e bicchieri) per assaggi e per bere, saranno provveduti ma per favore portate con voi birra, acqua minerale o bibite. Cercheremo di allestire delle lunghe tavolate, in modo di creare un’atmosfera italiana, ma se volete portare con voi il vostro cestino del picnic o tavolino o sedie, sarete liberi di farlo, così potrete andare a sedervi all’ombra dei pini.

Una raccomandazione: in caso si alzasse il vento nel tardo pomeriggio, vi consigliamo di portare con voi una maglia o una giacca e naturalmente chi vuole partecipare alla vendemmia, un cappello e della crema per proteggersi dal sole è consigliabile.

Come avrete notato, questa scampagnata avviene lo stesso giorno dell’annuale “Argus”, corsa delle biciclette, perciò fate attenzione se la chiusura di alcune strade interferirà con la strada che dovrete percorrere. Se qualcuno di voi parteciperà in mattinata alla corsa delle biciclette, potrà sempre raggiungerci a gara terminata.

La strada più facile per raggiungere le vigne, è la seguente:
Prendete la strada N2 che va verso l’aeroporto. Seguite la N2 fino all’uscita di Somerset West/Strand, girando a sinistra verso Somerset West. Dopo aver superato un piccolo ponte, girate a destra al semaforo della Vergelegen Medi Clinic e andate sulla vecchio “Main Road” per alcuni Km verso Sir Lowry’s Pass. Una volta che siete nel paese del Sir Lowry’s Pass, vedrete sulla vostra destra una stazione di polizia. Girate la prima strada a sinistra al Sir Lowry’s Pass Sports Field (girate a sinistra alla scritta “Leibro”). Seguite una strada coperta di mattoni per 2 Km (fate attenzione agli invisibili dossi). In fondo vedrete l’ingresso della Knorhoek Farm (Est 1795) passate il cancello e proseguite lungo la strada asfaltata lungo i campi di struzzi e gazelle. Passate la Cape DutchHomestead e continuate verso la collina lungo la strada bianca.
Raggiunta la cima alla strada bianca, attraversate la linea ferroviaria e siete arrivari.

We trust that you all enjoyed Christmas and the New Year and wish you all a happy and successful year ahead.

Christmas Function
Our picnic at the Stellenbosch Flying Club was once again a great success and this time the weather was absolutely wonderful! About 80 of us were there and everything went according to plan – Babbo Natale made a suitably dramatic entrance from the skies, dropping sweets as he flew by – to the delight of the children. After lunch we had games on the lawn, which was enjoyed by both children and adults! Another highlight: Aldo Cannone brought along his accordion and we gathered around and sang the old, nostalgic songs. Terri Talotti again provided two magnificent pignatte, which were demolished quickly enough, with the children scrambling about for treasures and squealing in delight at their good fortune.

Many thanks to all those who were there and made the day so successful. We had a great time, enjoyed the beautiful weather and scenery and especially the company of our Friulian Family – and at the end of the day we went home with smiles on our faces.

We have received this magnificent invitation –

Dear Fogolar Furlan members,      
 
The Bottega family would like to invite you to attend this year's harvest picnic on our Da Capo Vineyards near Sir Lowry's Pass, Somerset West. The picnic will take place on Sunday 9th March from 11am.

We will pick some grapes together in the late morning and then perform some stomping in open vats to make a ceremonial barrel of wine, so please bring your shorts or be prepared to roll up your long pants. A change of clothing is also recommended. Hand showering facilities will be provided.

After the grape picking and stomping, the Fogolâr will serve a delicious picnic braai.

The cost of the food is R80 for adults and R40 for children under 12 years, so please supply Rosanna details of how many family members will be attending, for catering purposes. Please let us know how many children to expect, so we can see if we can arrange some additional entertainment for them.

Wines (and glasses) for drinking and tasting will be supplied at the picnic, but please bring along any other refreshments (beer, cold drinks, bottled water). We will endeavour to put some long tables together to create an Italian feel at the lunch, but if you would like to bring your own your picnic blankets/ground sheets (or extra tables/chairs) to put under the pine trees, please feel free to do so.

Finally, in case the wind picks up after lunch, please bring along a sweater or wind breaker, and of course plenty of sunblock and hats for the grape picking!!
 
Please note that the picnic will take place on the same day as the Argus Cycle Tour so for those who are affected by road closures, please be aware of this. If anyone is competing in the Argus please try and come along after the ride to replenish the levels.

Attached is a map with directions to Da Capo Vineyards. It should take approximately  35/40 minutes from Cape Town to get to the farm. We will put out signs (Da Capo Vineyards / Idiom Wines).

The easiest way to get to the vineyards is to take the N2 past the airport. Follow the N2 until the Somerset West/Strand turn off, turning left towards Somerset West. After you cross the little bridge, turn right at the Vergelegen Medi Clinic traffic lights and travel along the old main road towards Sir Lowry's Pass for quite a few kilometres. Once you have entered the town of Sir Lowry's Pass drive past the police station on your right and turn first left at the Sir Lowry's Pass Sports Fields (turn left at the Leibro sign). Follow a brick-paved private road for 2 kilometres (beware the invisible speed bumps) and at the end you will see the entrance to Knorhoek Farm (Est 1795). Drive to the gate and sign in at the boom. Proceed along the tar road past the field with the springboks and ostriches. Go past the Cape Dutch Homestead and continue up the hill along the gravel road.
At the top of the gravel road, cross over the railway line and you will have arrived

       Very belated congratulations to Roberto and Siân Bottega on the birth of their first-born – Gianluca – on 25 May 2007, and to first-time grandparents, Alberto and Valerie Bottega;

       Congratulations to Saverio Talotti and Bianca Marchesi, who were married on 1 December 2007;

       Congratulations to Lisa Colussi (daughter of Vic and Barbara) and Malcom Brown on their marriage, which took place on 12 January 2008;

       Our condolences go the family of our honourary member, Marco Mezzabotta, on the death of their sister, Grazia Pugliesi;

       Our thoughts and prayers are with Nello Battiston and Renata Dutra, who are recovering after recent operations.
